1. How does your tour operate?

The American Heritage tour of Washington and Arlington National Cemetery is a narrated shuttle tour along the National Mall and Arlington National Cemetery. Hop on and off from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm daily at the Smithsonian Museums, the Presidential Memorials, White House, and through Arlington National Cemetery. Purchase tickets directly from the driver at any Tourmobile stop or the ticketbooth at Arlington National Cemetery or Union Station.

2. What are the hours of operation?

The American Heritage Tour departs daily from 9:30 am until 4:30 pm except Christmas Day and New Years Day.

The Arlington National Cemetery tour departs daily from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm October thru March and 8:30 am – 6:30 pm April thru September.

Tour hours and availability are subject to change.

3. How much is the tour?

4. Can I purchase my tickets in advance?

Yes, purchase your tickets for the one-day American Heritage Tour and 3 1/2 Hour Twilight Tour through TicketMaster.

There is a 10-day advance purchase required for Twlight Tour tickets.

All other tour tickets are purchased on the day of the tour from a driver or available ticketbooth.

7. How do I recognize your vehicles and/or stops?

Vehicles are 85 passenger trams that are red, white, and blue and have TOURMOBILE written on the side of the vehicles.

8. How often do the buses/trams stop at each stop?

The American Heritage tour trams arrive at each stop approximately every 30 minutes. Trams are at the stop long enough to unload and board passengers. The Arlington National Cemetery tour trams depart from the boarding area at cemetery visitor center approximately every 20 minutes.

9. Do I need reservations?

No. Purchase tickets directly from the driver at any Tourmobile stop, ticketbooth at Arlington National Cemetery or Union Station on the day of your tour. For groups of 20 or more see Groups.

10. Does my ticket include the tour through Arlington National Cemetery?

The American Heritage Tour one and two day ticket includes the riding tour through Arlington National Cemetery.

11. Where can I catch the Arlington National Cemetery tour?

You can only purchase your tickets and begin your tour at Arlington National Cemetery. Purchase tickets from the ticket window inside the visitor center.

12. What is the latest time I can start my tour?

For the American Heritage tour we recommend you start your tour as early as possible to enjoy the full experience of the tour. However, the latest start for a COMPLETE riding tour with minimal stops is approximately 12 noon. For our Arlington National Cemetery tour , the latest start time to visit all the sights on our route is 3:00 pm.

13. When is the last tour?

Final boarding for the American Heritage Tour is 1 hour prior to closing. For Arlington National Cemetery – 30 minutes prior to closing.

14. If I purchase a two-day ticket do I have to use it 2 consecutive days?

Yes. The two-day ticket is good from 9:30am – 4:30pm day of purchase and the next day.

15. Does the two-day ticket include the night tour?

No. It is only good for the American Heritage tour, which operates from 9:30am – 4:30pm.

16. Can I make reservations for the night tour?

Because we have unlimited seating for the night tour we do not accept reservations. You can only purchase your tickets for our night tour from the Union Station Ticketbooth.

17. Where can I park my car?

The most convenient places to park and catch our tour is at Union Station or Arlington National Cemetery. Both locations are paid parking and have ample parking available. There is also free parking available in Lots A, B, and C in East Potomac Park near the Jefferson Memorial. Spaces are limited and available on a first come, first serve basis.

18. Where is the nearest Metro stop to a Tourmobile stop?

Customers staying in or near Virginia may take the Blue Line of the Metro to Arlington National Cemetery and walk approximately 40-50 yards to the Arlington National Cemetery Visitors Center.

Customers staying in Washington, DC may want to take the Red Line to Union Station or the Blue/Orange Line to the Smithsonian stop.

19. Do you operate during inclement weather?

Yes. Check the Tourmobile Updates for any changes.

20. Do you operate on weekends and holidays?

Yes. We operate year round except for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. However, tours and hours are subject to change so please check Tourmobile Updates for any changes.

21. Are your buses/trams wheelchair accessible?

22. Do you offer services for the hearing-impaired?

Yes, scripts are available upon demand at Arlington National Cemetery and Union Station. Scripts must be returned at the end of the tour.

23. Do you offer any discounts to seniors, families, travel agents, AAA, etc?

No, we do not offer any discounts.

24. Do you offer group rates?

For groups of 20 or more people the group rate is as follows:

25. Do you offer tours in other languages?

No. Our tours are narrated only in English.

26. How do I use my Entertainment Coupon?

An Entertainment Coupon may be redeemed with a driver at any stop our at our ticket booth at Arlington National Cemetery and Union Station. Subject to terms and conditions of the coupon.

27. Can I use my credit card?

We accept MasterCard and Visa at ticketbooths in Arlington National Cemetery and Union Station.

28. Will the driver make change?

Yes, however we recommend customers use small bills.

29. Are the vehicles air-conditioned?

No, during the warmer months the large picture windows are removed. The buses are heated during the winter.

30. Where can I eat?

There is a large Food Court in the Lower Level of Union Station and cafeterias within some of the Smithsonian Museums.

31. Can you pick me up from my hotel/airport?

No, we only pick up customers along our designated stops. See Tour Stop Map.

32. Can I bring my luggage with me while I tour?

No, there is no place for customers to store large bags, packages, luggage, etc.

33. Do you provide step-on guides?

No, visit the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation for information on obtaining your own guide.

34. What special events are going on in Washington, DC when I get there?

Visit the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation for information. Additionally visit the Tourmobile Updates frequently for possible changes to our services due to special events.

35. When is the Changing of the Guard?

The Changing of the Guard takes place at the Tomb of the Unknowns every hour from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm October 1 thru March 31st. Every 1/2 hour (on the hour and the half) from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm April 1 thru September 30.

36. Are refreshments available in Arlington National Cemetery?

No. There is no food allowed in Arlington National Cemetery in order to preserve the sacred shrine and respect the dignity of an active cemetery. See Arlington National Cemetery for more information.

37. Can I get tickets to other monuments and memorials through you?

No, tickets are not required for the Smithsonian Museums, Presidential Monuments and Memorials. Tickets are required for the Washington Monument, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, The Holocaust Museum, U.S. Capitol, and American Indian Museum.

Visitation into some sites are limited. We do not guarantee admission into any site.

38. How do I get a tour of the White House?

Public tours of the White House are available for groups of 10 or more people. Requests must be submitted through one's Member of Congress and are accepted up to six months in advance. These self-guided tours are available from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (excluding federal holidays), and are scheduled on a first come, first served basis approximately one month in advance of the requested date. We encourage you to submit your request as early as possible since a limited number of tours are available. All White House tours are free of charge. For the most current tour information, please call the 24-hour line at 202-456-7041. Please note that White House tours may be subject to last minute cancellation.

Other special tours include the candlelight tours at Christmas time and fall and spring tours of the White House gardens.

39. Where can I purchase tickets?

Purchase tickets directly from the driver at any Tourmobile stop or the ticket booth at Arlington National Cemetery or Union Station.
