SUMMERS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
What To Expect
Summers in the Washington, D.C. area are typically hot and very humid. Temperatures are generally in the high 80s and can reach up to and over 100 degrees with the humidity.
Although the museums are air-conditioned, most of the monuments, memorials, and other attractions are located outdoors and visitors should be mindful of the temperature. Be sure to bring a hat, sunglasses, plenty of sunscreen, and lots of bottled water to help keep you cool.
Visitors should also bring an umbrella for those unpredictable summer showers and to help provide you shade during those extremely hot and humid days.
If you get hungry or thirsty while touring, vendors are located in and around most attractions and a large food court is available inside of Union Station and at the Ronald Reagan Building.
Please be mindful that that as the Nation’s Capital, special events such as parades, races, and demonstrations take place in Washington, D.C. causing road closures and heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic. These closures may cause some delays in service during your visit so we ask that visitors be patient as we put your safety first during these special events.
These are just a few tips to help you plan your visit to Washington during the summer.
